FAQ: What If We Have Children?

Divorce is a separate legal process than child custody. We do not represent people in custody battles or represent you in court on matters of child custody. That does not mean that we cannot handle your divorce if you have children.

If you have a custody agreement in place, as most people do if they are separated, a divorce will not change that agreement. Cairns Law Offices can prepare a custody agreement for you just as we can prepare a property settlement agreement for you. There is no additional cost to do both. A simple, uncontested divorce will only dissolve your marriage in Pennsylvania. Even if you do not get a custody agreement prepared by Cairns Law Offices and only get divorced, it will not affect child custody or child support rights under PA law. Every county in Pennsylvania has its own family court and process that may need to be followed.
