With technology becoming more and more a part of daily life, many of the personal aspects of our lives are being altered by its usage. Divorce is an area where technology is having a greater effect than ever before. You can now get an uncontested divorce online and send an email to your parents when you have just gotten your divorce decree a few weeks later.

There are smart ways to use technology and social media and there are ways that are definitely not in your best interest. Texting is one of the positive ways divorced parents are using technology. If the kids' baseball game was cancelled, a parent can let their ex-spouse know that they will have the kids back earlier than expected. Also, if some free time opens up in their child's schedule, a parent can send an email to their ex-spouse's parent in order to set up extra time to spend with them. In addition, a nice way to keep up with the kids' pictures is to safely post them online using Flickr or Photobucket, Make sure to keep the settings on private to keep unwanted eyes away. By using these free services, you can ensure that grandparents and family members continue to be part of your children's lives after your divorce.

There are some other smart, easy, and often overlooked ways to use technology to make your divorce less stressful. First, change your passwords on your computer, cell phone and social media pages (such as Facebook). You may not remember if your spouse has the passwords to your computer hardware and accounts, so it's better to be safe and thus avoid potential problems. Also, don't use passwords that s/he may easily guess or security questions that s/he knows the answer to. By changing your passwords quickly, you help ensure that your spouse is not snooping around in your personal affairs. You also prevent your spouse from installing spyware that can give your spouse remote access to everything you are doing on your computer.

Next, block your soon-to-be ex from your social media circles such as Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn, You may want to think about blocking friends and others who may be sympathetic to your spouse and who may use information that they see online against you. Restrain yourself from posting personal matters that will possibly infuriate your spouse, thus making an simple, uncontested, no fault divorce more difficult to obtain, and a martial settlement agreement harder to negotiate. Sure, you want to vent about how you can't believe your spouse just met somebody else, or how you just meet this unbelievable person and you think you are in love- but do yourself a favor, and save it for after you have your Pennsylvania divorce decree in hand.

Lastly, take a bit of a retreat from social media. Not everyone needs to know where you are every moment of the day. Refrain from geotagging yourself and letting everyone know where you are at every moment. Keep your whereabouts limited to those who really need to know. After the divorce, you can always go back and pick up from where you left off with your social media circles. This may not sound like fun, but do you really want to sabotage your uncontested divorce and end up with a full-blown and expensive contested divorce?
