In September 2023, Jeezy filed for divorce from Jeannie, marking the end of their romantic journey together. The circumstances surrounding the divorce filing were not immediately clear, but it was reported that the decision was not made impulsively. Continue reading to learn more about what we know about their divorce thus far.

Background on the Couple

Jeezy, born Jay Wayne Jenkins, is a renowned rapper who has made significant strides in the music industry. Known for his distinct style and powerful lyrics, Jeezy has carved out a successful career over the years. On the other hand, Jeannie Mai is a well-known TV personality, best recognized for her role as a co-host on the talk show "The Real."

Their paths crossed in 2018 when they met on the set of "The Real." Their romance blossomed, and they went public with their relationship in August 2019. After dating for some time, the couple decided to tie the knot. They were married in an intimate ceremony at their home in Atlanta in 2021.

Details on the Divorce Filing

As we mentioned, Jeezy (Jay Wayne Jenkins) filed the initial petition. He is asking for joint custody of their daughter, Monaco.

Many people are speculating that Jeannie Mai was just as blindsided by the divorce as the rest of the world, because just a week before the filing, Jeannie Mai posted a heartfelt Instagram post praising her husband after his book made the NYT’s bestseller list. Throughout the years, Jeannie Mai has also spoken about how her husband showed her what she truly deserved out of a relationship and always seemed happy when discussing her husband.

What the Couple Had to Say About the Divorce

Following the divorce filing, Jeezy finally addressed the split from Jeannie more than a month later. He did not delve into the details, but it became evident that the decision was not taken lightly.

Initially, Jeannie Mai maintained a relatively low profile since the news broke out. However, she broke her silence on October 12 with a simple Instagram photo. The photo shows a journal with the following words written in black ink: “Sometimes, you need to take a break and disconnect, to heal.” The words are punctuated with a small black heart.

The reasons behind the divorce remain speculative. However, it is suggested that differences in family values may have played a significant role in the dissolution of their marriage. Despite the end of their marriage, both Jeezy and Jeannie have continued to maintain their professional commitments and move forward with their individual careers.
