Pennsylvannia's Original eDivorce℠ Lawyer

|

Former California governor and actor Arnold Schwarzenegger and ex-wife Maria Shriver will finalize their divorce in December. The divorce will be granted three years after the couple separated in 2011.

Divorce Finalized After Three Years

The finalization of the divorce comes after the former couple reached an agreement about their $400 million fortune and the division of their property. Schwarzenegger is reported to have a $300 million net worth, while Shriver's net worth is $100 million.

According to California law, Shriver is entitled to 50% of Schwarzenegger's earnings during their marriage, which includes his iconic roles in The Terminator and Kindergarten Cop. Shriver is estimated to obtain $150-200 million in the divorce settlement.

Affair Allegations Hurt Schwarzenegger

Schwarzenegger and Shriver were married in 1986. Shriver filed for divorce in July 2011 after discovering Schwarzenegger fathered a child with a member of their household staff while the couple was married. The woman and child lived in the home Schwarzenegger shared with Shriver and their children. Schwarzenegger admitted to the affair and accepted parentage of the child, who was already a teenager when the allegations came forward. Birth records of the child show that he was born only a week after Shriver gave birth to her youngest son.

In September 2014, Shriver attended a wedding with her new boyfriend, Matthew Dowd. Dowd used to be a campaign strategist for Schwarzenegger during his political career. Shriver and Dowd ignited a media frenzy with allegations that the two carried on an affair while she was still married to Schwarzenegger.

The former spouses have four children and are working on their friendship for the sake of their children.
