As you are coming to terms with the fact that your marriage is ending, there are items which you may neglect. I have put together a tip sheet to help you navigate a little more comfortably through your uncontested divorce.

  1. Be moderate in your behavior. This is not the time to take your life savings and blow it on a trip to Vegas. Get through your uncontested divorce and develop a life-long plan. A divorce coach can help guide you onto a new path.
  2. Having trouble sleeping and/or eating because of your divorce? Don't let it go for more than three weeks, after that make sure you get professional help. There is no shame in asking for help.
  3. Be the bigger person. Though it's easier said than done, it will save you the emotional frustration of getting dragged into a fight. It can already be exhausting going through an uncontested divorce. Why drain your energy more?
  4. Come up with a meal plan. Sure it's easy to eat out, but it also can become expensive. There are several recipe books which can teach you how to prepare healthy meals in under thirty minutes.
  5. Be cautious when dating after divorce. You will most likely need time to heal. The next person you meet will probably be a rebound person, statistically speaking. Take things slowly.
  6. Keep your interactions professional. Your soon-to-be ex-spouse is not your best friend. Things may start off amicably, and if they do, try to keep it that way. Think of the language you would use at work, then use the same words when dealing with your spouse. This will go a long way when you are negotiating a martial settlement agreement.
  7. Should you go down the path of having intercourse with your spouse make sure you are using some kind of birth control. Do you really want to bring a baby into a relationship that is ending? Couples have let the heat of the moment result in life long devastating effects.
  8. If you are sexually active with someone else take time to visit your doctor. There may be new options that you are not aware of for birth control. Also, this may be a time to take any necessary medical tests.
  9. Create a budget right away. This cannot be stressed enough. Getting a hold of your finances will not only let you know what to expect, but also give you some peace of mind.
  10. Make a list of things you like to do. Then schedule in at least one of those things into your weekly calendar. You are going to need some me time and this is a great way to get started.
